What is a company AI Skill?

A no-hype explanation of what it contains, when it helps and how it differs from prompts, agents, connectors and MCP.

A company AI Skill is a reusable capability that codifies how an organisation wants a task to be performed. It can include instructions, rules, examples, documentation, checks, output formats and decision criteria.

Skill vs prompt

A prompt is usually a one-off instruction. A Skill is designed to be reused, tested, updated and distributed with a clear operating boundary.

Skill vs agent

A Skill describes a capability. An agent can orchestrate several steps and tools towards an objective.

Skill vs connector

The Skill contains how to work. The connector provides authorised access to an external source or action.

Skill vs MCP

MCP is infrastructure for connecting models and tools. It does not replace the company method encoded in the Skill.
